A recycled bare board binder may not appear to be stronger than vinyl, so we keep testing them to make sure.
Things you know: Naked Binder's 3-ring binders look better, they are better for the environment, they are 100% recycled and recyclable, they come in many styles and manage to make a binder look like a design element rather than throwing you back into some junior high school mode.
Things you may not know: Pretty, yes, but also very very very strong.
Test #7: Riding the fire trucks. We received an email from North East Joint Fire District in Webster, NY asking just how strong our binders are and could they handle the pressure of being on a firetruck.
"I am in need of the strongest 3 ring binder I can find. These binders will be subjected to the harshest environments. They will be opened quickly (and in a rough manner), be subjected to moisture and thrown around the cab of fire apparatus. Do you feel that one of your products could withstand this type of abuse?"
We sent some binders out immediately. This is February of 2010.
"I did receive your binders late last week. Early this morning I placed two of them in service on our two busiest rigs. I have attached some pictures of the new binders next to the old binders, as long as Engine 103 and Squad R-107….the rigs they were placed in. They already had their maiden voyage to a rollover motor vehicle accident shortly after I put them in service. We will field test them for a month or two."
The previous binders (heavy duty vinyl binders) had shredded. Here the Naked Binders are show with the competition.

Ready to roll on the two busiest rigs they have:

Time passes. The initial idea was to use the binders for a few months. 8 months later, we still had not heard from our crews, so we checked in.
"They are still in service. The binders are holding up surprising well with the beating they take. Showing some wear and tear on the corners and one of the top covers was bent."
And it is true, the binders look horrible... no wait. They look fine!

So after 8 months on the busiest rigs, they appear to bin in fine shape. A little bent in one case (we are guessing someone sat on that one).
Compared to the heavy duty vinyl binders - well, holding together is a lot to expect from vinyl binders. Too much really.
Thanks to the North East Joint Fire District in Webster, NY for testing and using our binders.

"Over all people were surprised about the binders. They couldn’t believe how long they lasted or how sturdy they were. I even told them you put then in the washer to test them. Most of all they loved the product name. But my favorite was a woman who’s son wants to be an artist, she wanted to get him the binders go he could draw all over them and make them his traveling art. When we gave her a sample I thought she would cry she was so happy. It made my day."
